Tips on First Dates for Shy Girls
If you are shy, it is easy to fall into a pattern of getting overwhelmed by the idea of a first date. This is tough because the more you think about it, the more you psyche yourself out. As a shy person, take a few steps before and during your first date to avoid awkwardness and show your date who you really are.

Look Beautiful
Take some time before the date to dress in your favorite clothes and apply your favorite makeup. Look in the mirror on the way out and think tell yourself that you look beautiful. Do not, on the other hand, try to dress the way you think he likes. If you feel uncomfortable or unnatural, it will reflect in your attitude. If you feel comfortable, you will look comfortable and you will be a better date.

Questions
One major anxiety on first dates is the topic of conversation. As with other things, if you fret about this for too long it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy --- you'll be so anxious by the time you arrive that you won't have anything to talk about. Instead, focus on asking him questions. People love to talk about themselves, and if you give him the opportunity to do so, it will take the pressure off of you and show him that you're interested in his life.

Casual Basics
While you may be tempted to impress your date by suggesting something extremely romantic, alternative or grand, try to steer clear of this. If the date you plan has 10 different parts, then there are 10 different things that could go wrong. If you're shy, you may have a difficult time dealing with these as they come up. Make sure your date is both casual and basic, such as meeting for coffee or going to a movie. Remember, the date's is about you, not the activity you choose.

Date Focussing
Focus on your date. Think about what he's wearing, what he looks like and other things about him. This is an effective strategy because it keeps you from focussing on yourself. If you're thinking about how his shirt is untucked, you won't thinking about how your blouse isn't ironed, which will make you less shy and nervous.
