7 Mistakes You Make Removing Makeup

1. You skip removing your makeup all together.
Even if you only wear a little BB cream every day, leaving that makeup on can have harmful effects on your skin. During the night, your skin regenerates itself. But if your pores are still filled with makeup, they're not able to breathe and renew. Plus, clogged pores can lead to blackheads and acne.

2. You wash your face after you remove your makeup.
Try cleansing your skin while you still have makeup on, being careful not to smear your mascara onto your skin. Then, when you go to remove your makeup, there will be less to remove and you'll get a deeper clean.

3. You rub your mascara off quickly.
Have eye makeup under your eyes when you wake up? That's because you didn't take the time to remove it all properly. Soak a cotton pad in makeup remover or olive oil, and place it onto your eyelid for two to three minutes. It will break up even waterproof mascara, allowing you to wash it off without pulling at your eyes.

4. You only use makeup wipes.
They're great in a pinch, but makeup removing wipes aren't enough to really get all the gunk off your face and cleanse your skin. They really just remove the surface layer of makeup, so if possible, use an actual makeup remover on a cotton pad for a deep clean.

5. You wash your face with your hair down.
Putting your hair in a ponytail is more than just convenient. Having your hair off your face helps make sure you remove makeup along your hairline, too.

6. You swipe "up" while removing mascara.
Close your eyes, and gently pull down on your lashes. Always remove mascara the direction that your eyelashes grow, not the other way around. Pulling up on your lashes can damage them, causing breakage.

7. You remove your eye makeup first.

This is especially important for girls who love bold, stay-put lipstick. Remove your lipstick first by gently scrubbing your lips with a soaked cotton pad. That way, you won't smear the lipstick onto your skin, which can be tough to get off.

Jennifer Lopez

Image and Article Original Source : PETRA GUGLIELMETTI / http://www.glamour.com/

On last night's American Idol, which revealed the top five contestants for season 14, judge Jennifer Lopez was rocking an bold and unusual makeup choice: reddish-pink eyeshadow.

But this was hardly the first time the hair/makeup adventuress went with a risky red-eyed scheme; it's been her thing all season. Here are two more examples of different red-based tones she's worn for judge duty lately.

The question being: Can even the beauty goddess J.Lo make red eyeshadow happen? It's a tough color to pull off for obvious reasons, since redness near the eyes naturally makes us think of sleepiness, allergies, weepiness, and/or hangovers. However, when you're Jennifer Lopez, the ordinary rules don't apply. My opinion is that yes, Jennifer Lopez is making red eyeshadow happen, but that she is among <5 percent of the population that can do so.

Summer makeup for oily skin

Original Source: Priya Chaphekar/http://femina.in/

Whether you like the no makeup look or not, you are forced to stick to it throughout the summer season. Things get worse when you have an oily skin and you have no choice but to put aside your makeup kit till the weather cools down. Here are five tips to sweat-proof your face during those hot summer days.

The CTM ritual
Before starting off with your makeup, it’s important to prep your skin. Now just because you have overactive oil glands doesn’t mean you damage it by over-cleansing. Cleanse using a mild cleanser to avoid stripping your skin of its natural oils. Next, use an alcohol-free toner to get rid of excess oil. Complete the basic CTM regimen with a mattifying oil-free moisturiser. A tinted moisturiser with an SPF is a good choice as well.

Pick a primer
Begin the makeup with a smooth, shine-free, matte primer which will not only prevent your makeup from sliding off and make it last for a longer period of time, but also help to absorb excess oil. Don’t forget to apply a bit on your eyelids to keep the eye makeup in place.

Skip the foundation
If you have an oily skin, it isn’t a good idea to slather on too many products. If you’ve already used a tinted moisturiser, you don’t really need a foundation. But if you have to, pick an oil-free or mineral based one and blend it well on selected areas. Using a concealer would be a good idea as it won’t clog your pores and cause breakouts.

Powder power
Make loose translucent powder your best friend. Along with the primer, it will seal the look, make it last for a longer period and prevent the oily sheen. Gently press the powder into your face rather than brushing it vigorously with a powder brush as this can unsettle the rest of the makeup. Make sure you don’t go overboard with it as well and use it sparingly on problem areas.

Keep blotting paper handy

Even though your makeup is oil-free, a night out at a sweaty club is sure to make you look disastrous the minute you’re out. So it’s important to keep a few blotting papers in your purse and gently press it on the areas to absorb any greasiness during your loo breaks. The trick is to gently dab and not rub to refresh your look in mere moments.

Shaving

The Biggest Mistakes You Make Shaving Your Legs
1. Shaving your legs as soon as you hop into the shower.
Understandably, you want to get your morning routine underway, but experts advise hanging out in the shower or bath for about 15 minutes before you start shaving -- this will soften the hair and open up follicles. Any longer, though, and your skin will wrinkle and swell, making it harder to score a close shave.

2. Doing it first thing in the morning.
Shaving at night will leave your legs smoother. As you sleep, your legs swell slightly, which can make hair retreat back into its follicles.

3. Not using anything to lather up (or worse, using bar soap).
No matter how in a hurry you may be, skip the temptation to shave "dry." Lather up your legs with a moisturizing shaving cream to make sure the razor glides easily over your skin, and you'll avoid nicks and cuts. In a pinch, hair conditioner will do just as good a job. But skip the bar soap: "It doesn't create enough lubrication for a razor to slide easily against your skin, which can up the odds of cuts," dermatologist Ellen Gendler, M.D., told Good Housekeeping.

4. Using those single-blade disposable razors.
This is fine once in awhile, like if you're staying in a hotel, but for every-day use it's best to invest in a four- or five-blade razor. They provide the smoothest results, letting you navigate tricky areas like your knees and ankles. "Single-blade disposables are likelier to drag against the skin," says cosmetic dermatologist Neal Schultz, M.D.

5. Not replacing your razor blade often enough.
You may have bought yourself a nice razor, but it won't do you any good if you don't change your blade at the first sign of dullness (usually, about five to 10 shaves). Old blades are not only ineffective, but more likely to cause bumps and redness and trap bacteria, which can potentially cause infections.

6. Shaving up the leg before you shave down the leg.
On your first pass, only shave in the direction your hair grows (down the leg), and if you have very sensitive skin, don't shave upward at all. While going "against the grain" may get you a closer shave, it also increases the possibility of irritation, nicks, and cuts. Once your hairs are already very short, and the skin is warm and lubricated, going against the direction of hair growth is much safer. "If you'd still like a closer shave, reapply the gel and shave again -- against the direction of the hair growth," says Dr. Schultz.

7. Not preventing or treating razor burn.
Close shaving can result in ingrown hairs, and untreated razor burn can turn into long-term scars. To help prevent those annoying red bumps in the first place, use an exfoliating body scrub twice a week to shed the skin that's trapping hairs. To treat bumps, put a warm compress on the affected area -- the heat will relax the hair. After showering, apply lotion to soften the hair, leaving your skin less prone to infections.

8. Shaving with your guy's razor.
A lot of women think using a men's razor is more effective, so we tested the market leaders. The three-blade Gillette Mach3 disposable finished in last place, while the refillable three-blade Gillette Mach3 Turbo did just as well as the top women's razors.

BB Cream

What Are BB Creams?
Want to streamline your beauty routine while saving counter space and money? Who doesn't? That's why a new type of product called BB cream has become one of the hottest trends in the beauty industry.

This versatile skin care/makeup hybrid promises to do the job of five or six other jars and tubes: moisturizer, primer, sunscreen, skin treatment, concealer, and foundation.

"The idea of a well-formulated BB cream is that it's the only product you'll need after you wash your face," says Ni'Kita Wilson, a cosmetic chemist at Englewood Lab in New Jersey.
How BB Creams Began

BB creams are short for beauty balms or blemish balms. They were first developed in Germany by a dermatologist who wanted a single cream that would protect skin and provide coverage after laser treatments.

The all-in-one formulation became a sensation in South Korea and then spread throughout Asia.

"The average woman in Asia goes through seven different steps taking care of her skin," says Jessica Wu, MD, a Santa Monica, Calif., dermatologist and author of Feed Your Face: Younger, Smoother Skin and a Beautiful Body in 28 Delicious Days. "When I was in Hong Kong, every woman I spoke to was using a BB cream to shorten that regimen."

The BB Boom

BB creams started hitting U.S. store shelves in the spring of 2011. Today, almost every major beauty company has a BB cream, from drugstore brands that cost under $10 to high-end department-store lines that may be as costly as $100 or more, as well as lines that are only sold at spas or in doctors' offices. More are on their way.

The NPD Group, a market research group, found that although only 2% of beauty shoppers have purchased a BB cream, nearly 4 in 5 of those who have say they'll buy the product again.

What BB Creams Do

Can one beauty product really do it all? Maybe.

Many BB creams offer effective sun protection, with broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, the American Academy of Dermatology's recommendation for daily use. What's more, BB creams generally contain zinc oxide or titanium oxide, physical sunblocks that have some built-in water-resistant properties, Wu says.

When it comes to skin treatment, you can find BB creams that contain:

Anti-aging components, including peptides and antioxidants such as vitamins A, E, and C
Moisturizing workhorses like hyaluronic acid and glycerin
Ingredients such as licorice and arbutin that help even out skin tone
Light-reflecting mica to give skin a luminous finish
Silicone-based ingredients, such as dimethicone, that help smooth the skin, acting much like a foundation primer does

The Limitations of BB Creams

For all its benefits, if you expect a BB cream to be a miracle in a tube, you might be disappointed.

While the scent is an eclectic composition of fruity-chypre notes, the fragrance opens with a fresh, green touch of absinthe and bright hints of peach and freesia.

Lovestruck: Featuring Gossip Girl actor Leighton Meester in the ads, Vera Wang's new fragrance is an addictive floral scent that incorporates a pink guava and mandarin, followed by a mix of tuberose and lotus blossom. Precious woods and sheer musk make for the base notes.

Cartier Baiser Vole: Baiser Volé ('Stolen Kiss') debuted in July 2011 from Cartier. Mathilde Laurent, who composed the notes, has brought out ultra feminine essences of the lily. Chanel No 19 Poudre: This year, Chanel introduced a successor to its No 19 called No 19 Poudré. Chanel's in-house perfumer, Jacques Polge created the Eau de Parfum including neroli, galbanum, jasmine, iris, white musk, vetiver, and tonka bean.

Gucci Guilty Intense: The scent for women, Gucci's Guilty Intense is an eau de parfum with a warm oriental floral passion at its core, imbued with an audacious fist of pink pepper. The middle notes consist of lilac enriched with the sensuality of violet and heliotropine.
The Guilty Intense Pour Homme scent braces Italian lemon and lavender, undercut with a tang of coriander. A bitter orange flower, with hints of sweet, honeyed and somewhat metallic, yields to an unexpectedly masculinity reinforcing neroli.

Armani Code Sport by Giorgio Armani: Launched earlier this year, the new fragrance for men is on the lines of the 2004 Armani Code and apparently has a new twist of freshness, excitement, adrenaline and seduction. The notes for the aromatic woody citrus include lemon, mandarin, three kinds of mint (wild mint, peppermint, and spearmint), ambergris (ambrox, in high concentration), ginger and vetiver.

Estee Lauder Bloom: Unlike the quirky Balenciaga or polished Cartier, the Bloom fragrance opens with a fresh and playful fruity blend. With a noticeable grapefruit and luscious raspberry scent, lychee adds an uplifting feel to the Violet. The body of the fragrance unfolds with dewy pink peony, rose, jasmine and the spicy green lily. It finishes of with top notes of musk, patchouli and vanilla.

10 Celebrity Blunders

Kristen Stewart

We know this was for a role, but couldn't K.Stew have worn a wig instead? Anything to have prevented this mullet moment.

Drew Barrymore

We like Drew best when she's rocking her signature boho-glam look. This pouffy tribute to Marilyn Monroe just looks cuckoo.

Ashley Tisdale

There's a difference between a healthy glow and looking like an Oompa Loompa. Guess which one you are Ashley Tisdale.

Taylor Momsen

Remember when Taylor Momsen didn't show up to every event looking like a zombie stripper? Yeah, neither do we.

Katherine Heigl

If Katherine Heigl's intentions with this helmet hairstyle were to look like a psychotic extra from Mad Men, well, mission accomplished.
Ashley Olsen

Ashley Olsen is always on the fashion-forward side, but this dark, muddy lipstick makes her look more goth than gorgeous.

Whitney Port

Note to Whitney Port: The red carpet and the Renaissance fair are not one in the same. Next time, leave the garland at home.

Date

Glam-up for Your Date in Minutes

Got a date in 10 minutes? Worry not. We'll take you from drab to fab in just a few minutes with these quick beauty tips.

If you have: 15 mins
You will need: Concealer, eye liner and lip balm
Tips:
o    Since you do not have much time, your mantra should be to look fresh and well put together.
o    Apply concealer where required.
o    You can totally nix the foundation because it takes time to apply it evenly and to set.
o    Line your eyes well and put a lip balm to moisten your lips a little and you're ready to go.
Quick tip: Because your look is simple, you can add some drama by winging the liner or by applying a thick line.

If you have: 30 mins
You will need: Smudge-proof kohl, eyeshadow, foundation
Tips:
o    If your date is at night-time, your best bet would be to do up the eyes.
o    It is always better to do the eyes first and then the foundation to get a cleaner finish.
o    Dab some gloss and you're ready to go.
Quick tip: You can do smoky eyes and add some colour to it by sweeping some eyeshadow to the outer corners of the eye.

If you have: 45 mins
You will need: Face mask, makeup for the look you want
Tips:
o    Applying a cooling mask before applying makeup will make your face look fresher and enable your makeup to last longer.
o    You could also rub some ice cubes over your face for the skin to tighten and look prim.
o    You could do interesting eye makeup or defined cheeks, anything you like!
Quick tip: Since you have time on your hands, you can take a quick 20-minute power nap before you start prepping for your date. It will make your skin glow!

Bridal Make-up Tips

Being a pretty bride is no easy task, especially if you fall prey to beauty bloopers. Make-up expert Kapil Bhalla tell you how to get that make-up right and look beautiful without any hiccups on your D-day.

Starting with the base:
  • Keep the foundation minimal, concentrating just under the eyes to look fresh and radiant.
  • Powder the face well with loose powder to set the foundation.
  • It is a myth to apply foundation all over the face. It just adds a redundant layer of makeup.
  • Apply foundation only on certain areas with fine lines, like under and outer corners of the eye, corners of the lips and maybe on the forehead.

For the eyes:
  • Extended eyeliners and kohl pencils look great on the ceremony days. Keep the eyes glittering in soft shimmer powders in golds and soft pink.
  • Make sure to use water proof mascara to avoid any glitches.
  • Avoid using cream-based eye shadows in dark colours. It will make the makeup look too heavy.
  • Most people believe that they can use lipstick to smear the eyelids. Avoid!
  • For a fresh and clean look, avoid lining the lower lid with kohl or liner.
For the lips:
  • Use soft pastels like peach, coral or pinks for the lips.
  • Break away from the conventional deep reds and maroons that make you look years older than you are.
  • Wear transfer resistance lipstick so that it stays for a longer time and does not wear off.

For the cheeks:
  • Keep cheeks softly blushed in a medium pink shimmery blusher.
  • Remember that you need to look beautiful in real life and not in reel life. Don't get conned by makeup artists who claim to do makeup with photography in mind and cake you up.
  • Matching your makeup with your clothes is passé. Stick to tones in makeup that suit you otherwise as well.
  • The key is to keep it simple.

For the hair:
  • Don't make hairstyles that make you look older unless you want to look from the 60s!
  • Softly done put-ups with textured hair look great under dupattas.
  • Avoid too much back combing and stick to simple middle parted hair, adorned with fresh flowers at the back or on one side.
