How to Wear Red Lipstick

While the whole world goes gaga over smoky eyes and pale lips, step away from the herd and channel some old glamour. You may think the red-lips trend ended in the ’80s, but there’s no head-turner like a full-painted pout.

Lips
1. To get your lips right, make-up expert Michele Tung suggests, “Since you are sporting a bright shade of lipstick, you have to ensure that your lips are luscious and wellmoisturised. If your lips are dry or chapped, the lipstick won’t glide well and your look will be ruined.” Apply a lip balm or moisturiser that suits your skin tone, well in advance.

2. For that desirable voluptuous pout, choose a lip pencil like Rockstar or MAC Viva Glam in a deep red hue and apply the pencil beyond the natural line. This will give your lips a seductive and feminine appeal.

3. Next, fill in the lips carefully with the help of a lip brush in a bright shaded matte colour lipstick. Apart from red, you can also experiment with colours like hot pink, plum, wine and orange.

4. Unlike lip gloss, lipsticks in bright shades are not easy to sport and have a tendency to bleed. So, be sure to constantly touch-up on your lipstick.

5. Once you apply the lipstick, blot your lips with a tissue
paper to even it out.

6. If need be, apply a layer

Face
1. Apply a matte foundation to your face and neck.Vipul Bhagat, make-up artist to the stars, recommends a lightweight foundation, about two shades lighter than the skin colour.

2. Consider getting eyebrow stencils to help you modify your brow shape accordingly. If you are going for a thicker look, such as on actress Elizabeth Taylor in the 1950s, allow your brows to grow back if you’ve shaped them thinly, or simply fake it. If your brows are thick enough already, simply follow the shape on the stencil of your choice and use a sharpened brow pencil to draw in fine hairs.

3. Use smudged dark eyeliner on the top and bottom lash lines to overemphasise eyes. With black liquid liner, you can create a winged eye that is simultaneously fresh and vintage, and a beauty mark dotted on somewhere a starlet of old would choose to place hers.

4. Use a peachy pink eyeshadow on the eye lids.

5. Use fake eyelashes that are just a little bit longer and thicker than your own.

6. Soften the face with cream rouge in baby pink on the cheeks.

Hair
1. Curly hairdo:Women with short or long hair can sport this style. You can get this hairstyle with a side parting a la popstar Christina Aguilera. The traditional method involved using curlers. But you can easily achieve this look by using heated rollers. Use a plain comb for the parting and mark a partition on either side. Using heated rollers, curl your hair. After that place a hair net around the curlers overnight. In the morning, simply brush them. Use a hair spray to keep the do in place.

2. High ponytail: This hairstyle looks great when coupled with fringes.Women with medium or long hair can try this style. Says hairstylist Clint Fernandes, “Hold your hair at the base, close to the scalp, in the position you want it to be fastened.” Use a hairbrush to smoothen it from your hairline to the base of the ponytail. With a plain comb, part the fringes on either side of your forehead and comb it straight.
