Suicide
10 Most Shocking Bollywood Suicides
Bollywood can be a scary, and sometimes, lonely place. The
suicide of actress Jiah Khan has yet again given us insight into the loneliness
and trauma stars suffer. The glitz and glamour is just a facade; what lies
beneath the air kisses and lavish lifestyles is far from beautiful. Take a look
at some of the most shocking celebrity suicide that were caused due to failed
careers and relationships.
Jiah Khan: She was a bubbly, beautiful actress who awed the
audience with her debut movie Nishabd. She was found hanging in her Juhu
apartment by her mother and her sister. The actress was allegedly depressed and
thought that she was failing at everything.
Divya Bharti: She died at the helm of her career in 1993 at
the tender age of 19. She was found dead after she fell from the window of her
fifth floor flat. Some say it was suicide because of a broken heart and some
say she just fell. But the mystery still remains.
Guru Dutt: Actor Guru Dutt was found dead in his house. The
reason for his death was a lethal combination of sleeping pills combined with
liquor. His relationship with his wife Geeta Dutt was deteriorating, and
actress Waheeda Rehman with whom he was in love had distanced herself from him.
Silk Smitha: This south Indian sex symbol committed suicide
by hanging herself in her house to the ceiling fan. She has left a suicide note
which said that she was ending her life due to constant failure.
Viveka Babaji: This beautiful model rose to fame with her
Kamasutra ad. She committed suicide in the year 2010 by hanging herself from
the ceiling fan. Failed career and relationships were cited as reasons for her
suicide.
Kuljeet Randhawa: Popular supermodel and TV actress Kuljeet
Randhawa committed suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling fan. Her suicide
note stated that she could not cope with the pressures of life and therefore
was ending her life.
Nafisa Joseph: This former Miss India and TV actress hanged
herself in her apartment a few years ago. Her suicide came as a shock because
she was just weeks away from her wedding. The former VJ discovered that her
husband-to-be was still married when he claimed that he had been divorced for
two years. This shocked her and led her to take such a drastic step.
Parveen Babi: The yesteryear sultry actress was found dead
in her apartment in the year 2005. The lonely star who had kept to herself was
discovered after neighbours complained that she hadn’t come out to collect the
newspaper and milk from her doorstep. Parveen, who was struggling with
diabetes, had apparently starved herself to death.
Manmohan Desai: A producer and director of Indian movies,
Manmohan Desai fell to his death from his balcony in 1994. He had made great
movies like Amar Akbar Anthony and Dharam Veer, but towards the end of his
career his movies were beginning to fail and losing flavour amongst the
audience.
Kunal Singh: Best known for his role opposite Sonali Bendre
in the movie Dil Hi Dil Mein, Kunal Singh committed suicide by hanging himself
to the ceiling fan. Though he was doing well in Bhojpuri and south Indian
movies, his strained relationship with his wife and the fact that he was not
allowed to see his kids were rumoured to be the reasons for his suicide.

Miss World
Indonesia axes bikinis for 2013 Miss World pageant
Miss World has axed the famed bikinis from this year's
pageant in Indonesia, replacing the skimpy swimsuits with conservative beach
sarongs amid mounting protests from hard-line Muslim groups, organizers said
Thursday.
All of the more than 130 contestants will be required to
wear Bali's traditional long sarongs instead of the sexy bikinis that are
historically part of the competition, said Adjie S. Soeratmadjie of the RCTI,
the official broadcaster and local organizer.
Parts of the pageant will take place on the resort island of
Bali and the final round will be held Sept. 28 near the capital, Jakarta.
Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim country.
"There will no bikini in this year's Miss World pageant
to respect our traditional customs and values," Soeratmadjie said, adding
that the London-based Miss World Organization is on board with the decision.
"This is a sensitive issue in Indonesia. We have
discussed it since last year and they have agreed," he said.
The chairwoman of the Miss World Organization, Julia Morley,
confirmed that none of the 137 contestants would wear a bikini.
"Indonesia is designing for us a very beautiful
one-piece beachwear, and I'm very happy with them," she told The
Associated Press by phone from London, adding that the pageant will include a
special beachwear fashion show.
"I don't think Indonesia is the only country that has
that culture," Morley said. "But we like to work in the manner
respectful to every country, and I cannot see why when you go to somebody's
country you should not behave respectfully."
The pageant began in the 1950s, and the first winner was
crowned in a two-piece bathing suit.
Soeratmadjie said the sarong would be made creatively and
designed specifically for the event.
Controversy over the pageant has been mounting in Indonesia,
which has a reputation as a tolerant, pluralist society that respects freedom
of expression.
Clerics of the Indonesian Council of Ulema, or MUI, said
they would send a letter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to demand that
the beauty pageant be canceled.
"That contest is just an excuse to show women's body
parts that should remain covered," said Mukri Aji, a prominent cleric from
West Java province's MUI branch. "It's against Islamic teachings."
Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia, a hard-line Islamic group, said it
planned to stage a protest and called for the competition to be moved
elsewhere.
Most Muslims in Indonesia, a secular country of 240 million
people, are moderate, but a small extremist fringe has become more vocal in
recent years.
They have pushed through controversial laws — including an
anti-pornography bill — and have been known to attack anything perceived as
blasphemous, from transvestites and bars to "deviant" religious
sects.
Lady Gaga was forced to cancel her sold-out concert in
Indonesia in May following threats by Islamic hard-liners, who called her a
"devil worshipper." Jennifer Lopez toned down her sexy outfits and
dance moves during a show in Jakarta last December.
